How to Obtain EIN for an Estate
Brad:
Hey, it’s Brad from georgiaprobateresource.com. Thanks for checking out another one of our videos. So at Georgia Probate Resource, we are a real estate solutions company here in Metro Atlanta, but we buy houses all over the state of Georgia and we specialize in the world of probate and inheritance properties. So today, what I’m actually going to talk about is, I’m going to go on my computer here and I’m going to show you how to obtain an EIN for your estate. You’re going to need that EIN in order to open up an estate bank account. If you don’t have an estate bank account yet, you’re going to need this first. And then once you get this, you definitely need to open an estate bank account. It’s fairly simple to do, so I’m going to go through online and show you how to do that. It’s really easy. You can go out on irs.gov and do that, and then once you have that, you’re off to the races. So it’s pretty simple.

But first of all, before we go any further, I want to give a little disclaimer here. I am not an accountant. I’m not a CPA. I don’t claim to be an accountant. I highly suggested that you consult with a CPA for your tax matters. They are worth every penny. But if you want to try to do this yourself, your CPA will probably actually give you the same instructions I’m doing, or your CPA might just go get your EIN for you. But it’s a very easy process. You can go online and fill out the forms online. So I’m going to go ahead and cue over to screen capture and show you here how to do it.

All right, so we are on irs.gov here, and the first thing you’re going to do is go to File. You’re going to apply for an Employer Identification Number, EIN. So you’re going to click on that, and then you’re going to click down here. You’re going to go Apply Now, right there. Say, Okay. Begin application. Right here, under the list, you’re going to choose Estate. An estate is a legal entity created as a result of a person’s death. You’re going to click Continue, and so we’re going to go here, and click Continue. Tell us about the deceased person’s name. We’re going to do John Doe, 123, 45, 6789. Continue. I put John Doe in. Obviously this isn’t going to work, but it’s going to take you through the steps. You’re going to fill out all the information. At the end, they’re going to give you the EIN, and that’s basically all there is to it.

I really hope that helps. Again, hey, I’m Brad with georgiaprobateresource.com and arborviewhomebuyers.com. If you do have an estate property that you want to sell, we’d love to buy it, or I can list it for you in the traditional fashion. I am a licensed real estate agent with OneSource Realty in Woodstock, so you can go the traditional route, or if you want just a quick, easy, fast cash offer and you don’t want to mess with it, we’d love to buy the property from you. So thanks again. Bye-bye.
